I love this book so much I don't think I'll do it justice with my review. Urban fantasy reviews don't come easy for me.
Like the Hidden Legacy series, this duo still manages to wow me. They give urban fantasy a new name. Their magic system is out of this world, and this book is no exception. The story, characters, writing, etc. complement each other. None is overdone, just the way I like it. The dialogue is witty and fun.
Caldenia descended down the stairs and saw him. "Ooo. Planning a kinky morning.
"No, just dealing with a pesky intruder."
"Oh well. If you kill him, do save me his liver. Werewolf liver is a very tender delicacy." She licked her lips. "Especially when sauteed in butter."
"What the hell...?" Sean growled.
"I'll keep that in mind."
The world is almost like ours, with slight differences like other dimensions and galaxies included. It's so well depicted that it's still urban fantasy and not sci-fi. The book is also well written. It's an easy and fast read. It's written in the first person POV of Dina the MC.
The characters are amazing and lovable. The major ones are Dina, Sean Evans, and Arland.
Dina is a human with magic who runs a supernatural/alien inn. She is smart, experienced, has good self-esteem, and is kind-hearted. If Dina puts her heart into something, she does it, which I love about her.
Sean Evans is an alpha strained(long story) werewolf. He is arrogant like most werewolves but is also protective even though his first instinct is to kill. I know, I know, the guy is a walking contradiction.
"Where is Arland?"
"Rapunzal decided to walk around in the woods to get a feel of the battleground.' He won't leave the grounds and he promises to defend the inn with 'all the strength in his body.' I told him if he gets in trouble, he should try singing prettily so his woodland friends will come to his rescue. I don't think he got it."
Arland is a vampire, but cross everything you know about vampires from your mind cause he is the direct opposite, apart from reveling in killing and fighting. Arland is an aristocrat, well-mannered and spoken. I love him so much, and before I forget, he is hot!
Forget the crappy synopsis. Mine is way better.
Like I mentioned earlier, Dina Demille runs an inn for the supernatural. Part of that is to keep the supernatural events from normal humans. So when some creatures start turning up ripped apart and dead in her neighborhood, she knows it is not normal and takes matters into her hands to solve the situation by enlisting the help of Sean, her werewolf neighbor. But things turn out bigger than expected when the Vampire aristocracy shows up.
