I am a big fan of Frank Hebert's Dune, and it was with great joy that I welcomed the news that it was going to be made into a movie.💃
I watched all the trailers, reread the book, and impatiently waited for the movie. I went around bugging friends to read the book and watch it. Some of them watched the movie before me. 😆
Please note that I haven't watched the 1984 Dune movie, so I had nothing apart from the books to work on. I sincerely hoped I wouldn't be disappointed, and I wasn't. 😃
I freaking love the intro! I am digging Jason Momoa as Duncan. After a while, I totally forgot he was Aquaman and only saw him as Duncan. He owned that character! He put all he had into it, and so from the depths of my bookish heart, thank you! He is my favorite character, after all. 🥰
They followed the book. I felt like I was seeing exactly what I had read. The visuals were on point! The scenes were great. At some point during the movie, I wished I hadn't reread the book because I knew what would happen before it did. However, the satisfaction of seeing it happen also cheered me up. I am glad they didn't pull a Harry Potter on me. 😅
Timothée Chalamet was excellent as Paul. There was a part when he discovered his purpose and used The Voice on his mother, and even I was shocked. Excellente!
I had always mourned the death of Liet-Kynes in the book but to see it happen was another painful blow; however, she went on her terms, and that's badass. I wish we had more time with Leto (what a charming man) and Jessica. I heard people complain about the length. Hello??? Have you read the book? Like really?
Heads up to those who don't like reading. If you are to study Dune for an exam but don't want to read it, just watch this and go for your exam. The least you can do is not complain about the long hours. 😒
The only issue I had with the movie was why it had to end where it did? I was walking those dunes with them, smiling sheepishly with Paul then gbam, until further notice. To endure another wait- 😠this is why I don't like series.
However, since they didn't disappoint this time, I would patiently wait for the next one while basking in the goodness of this one. I commend the whole crew. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Now go and watch the movie. Don't let fear stop you, as fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.💃
Score: I am not being partial, really, but it's a double 8 for me. 💫
