The Three of Us by Ore Agbaje-Wiliams

The book revolves around 3 people: a husband, his wife, and her best friend. It’s told from all 3 aspects, and the whole plot is set in one day.

The Three of Us

The Three of Us really lacked on so many levels for me.

The book revolves around three people: a husband, his wife, and her best friend. It’s told from all 3 aspects, and the whole plot is set in one day.

The Wife’s best friend comes over to stay for a  drink, the wife goes to get more wine and take lunch to her husband, the husband comes home, and they all eat dinner together. The same events are told or at least referenced in all three parts.

I was looking forward to The Three Of Us. However, I found myself forcing myself to finish it. In fact, I probably just skimmed the last half of the due to it being so repetitive.

I wouldn’t say I liked all three characters. I thought I liked the wife at first, but then, reading the other parts, I realized I disliked her. I’m a very character-driven reader, so reading a novel that’s supposed to be character-driven when I find the characters repulsive with zero character development is not a good combination for me.

The nail in the coffin for me was that ending,

Verdict

When it gets closer to the end, it starts becoming interesting (for once), but then the story just ends abruptly, without actual closure or excitement. It felt like the book ended, and the author didn’t get a chance to finish the story. A good ending would’ve saved the rest of the mediocre storyline for me, but it didn’t happen.

The Three of Us also lacked depth; there was no true character development, and the ending was flat with no true “end.” Instead, it just felt like the story stopped mid-sentence.

Overall wasn’t great.
