A Lady’s Guide To Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin

This very witty and gorgeously written regency romance follows the adventures of Kitty Talbot, a young lady determined to do all it takes to marry a wealthy husband quickly to save her family from falling into financial ruin.

Upon maneuvering her way into the London Season and almost securing a good match, she encounters an unexpected resistance in the form of Lord Radcliffe, the most eligible bachelor of the season, who is equally as determined to foil her plans because, unlike everyone else, he sees her for the fortune hunter that she is.

I found A Lady's Guide To Fortune-Hunting quite the delectable read because it checked all the right boxes of what I would typically expect from a historical romance novel set in England: two strong, smart MCs, satire, humor, and sarcasm.

Also, given that enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes in romance novels, I loved that it was handled relatively well in the story.

I would have loved to see more character development in some of the secondary characters, and it would have been great if the ending didn't feel so rushed. However, looking on the brighter side, the author cuts straight to the chase from the first chapter and maintains that tempo throughout the book, making for a very fast-paced and pleasurable read even though there's no smut in it.

In many ways, the structure of the novel is similar to that of Julia Quinn's The Viscount Who Loved Me, but it ends up setting itself apart by a good measure, so if you loved reading that, you'd definitely enjoy Sophie's debut.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
