The Lies of the Ajungo

The Lies of the Ajungo (Forever Desert #1) by Moses Ose Utomi

There is no water in the City of Lies.

The story begins with the history that is known. The sky refuses to give water. Death is inevitable until the Ajungo come: We can give you water, but you must give us your tongues.

It was a twofold price, a price of blood and a price of history. an untongued people cannot tell their stories.

Thoughts

For Tutu, this harsh life is all the life he has known and probably would until fate intervenes. To save his mother, he decides to venture out like the heroes before and find water, salvation really for his city.

What ensues is a fight for history.....

The Lies of the Ajungo has one of my favorite themes in the fantasy genre- the loss of history and how this loss shapes our understanding of not just our lives but the world.

It's about how the people who control our history have so much power to empower or keep people under.

It's always a fascinating reading journey with this sort of book. And I for one, immensely enjoyed this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
