Tomorrow Died Yesterday by Chimeka Garricks

The character development was profound, the pacing was excellent, the plot was well constructed, the tale was convincingly told, and the dialogue was realistic.

Tomorrow Died Yesterday

First of all… wow!!! I am so thrilled by this book!

Synopsis

Tomorrow Died Yesterday is the gripping story of four men in the Niger Delta region who were close friends growing up, but each went their separate ways. In 2004, at the height of the oil drilling in the region, a kidnapping goes wrong, and the four friends’ lives come back together in a way none of them could have predicted.

My Thoughts

The book is based on a real-life occurrence, an oil explosion incident that happened in the Niger Delta in Nigeria, which took many lives and turned things upside down.

Tomorrow Died Yesterday ticked all my boxes, and I like how the author was able to portray the different characters- their flaws and struggles. My heart broke in many places when I discovered why Amaibi and Dise separated, and I was extremely devastated.

The character development was profound, the pacing was excellent, the plot was well constructed, the tale was convincingly told, and the dialogue was realistic. It was fascinating to see how the relationship between these four friends evolved over time, particularly how they adjusted to what they’d each become. The romance between Kaniye and Deola was sweet and heartwarming.

The story was written beautifully, and I am awed by the author.

P.S. Chimeka Garricks is one of Nigeria’s finest writers.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
