Ready Player One (Ready Player One #1) by Ernest Cline

…a fine reading start to a New Year.

Hopefully, I’ll get to read books as great as this throughout the year.

Ready Player One is a unique story set in a dystopian world with a virtual utopia, the only respite from the wrecked world. Based on gaming and some awesome tech, the author tells a thrilling story of games, friendship, desperation, romance, and determination.

The best part of the book, just as in Warcross, is the world-building. Here, I think Ready Player One just about outdoes Warcross. Credit must go to the author on the sheer scale of detail in the book.

In addition to the stunning world of the OASIS, the excellently crafted storyline puts even more gloss on the entire thing. It’s not overly complex, and it goes excellently well with the world, just like bread and butter.
