DC vs. Marvel is an enduring argument with no universally agreeable end in sight.

People often say, “It’s a man’s world,” and fiction has hardly been an exception. For decades, male superheroes have dominated the conversation: power and who would win in a fight.

Superman gets measured against Thor, Batman gets compared with Iron Man, and debates about the strongest heroes somehow always circle back to the same familiar names.

Meanwhile, some of DC’s most formidable women are left forgotten, with no one to hand them their flowers. So, let’s start a new discourse: Marvel vs. DC Female superheroes?

Women Worth the Hype

These women bring unique abilities, compelling backstories, and enough personality to make any hypothetical showdown interesting. Here are some female contenders who could take the DC-Marvel rivalry to another level.

1. Wonder Woman vs. Captain Marvel

Wonder Woman is one of the most recognisable DC female superheroes in history, but her cultural popularity sometimes overshadows just how powerful she can be in the comics.

These two characters are accustomed to facing threats far beyond ordinary humans, and both have earned their place among their universes’ most recognisable heroes.

However, their backgrounds and approaches to heroism make the comparison more interesting than a straightforward contest of strength.

Wonder Woman, also known as Diana of Themyscira, is an Amazon princess raised on an island inhabited by formidable female warriors.

Her origins vary across comic-book continuities: some versions portray her as brought to life through divine intervention, while others make her the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and Zeus.

Regardless of the version, Diana’s upbringing combines rigorous combat training with lessons about diplomacy, compassion, and the pursuit of peace.

Her abilities typically include superhuman strength, speed, endurance, and durability, complemented by exceptional fighting skills. Additionally, her equipment, particularly the Lasso of Truth and her indestructible bracelets, adds another dimension to her combat abilities.

Captain Marvel is a former Air Force pilot whose transformation granted her extraordinary powers.

Her military background also makes her an experienced tactician who can operate effectively in dangerous situations. A fight between them would depend on their respective versions, circumstances, and the writers’ interpretation of their abilities.

Diana holds a massive advantage in combat experience, tactical skill, and weaponry. Having trained for centuries, her hand-to-hand skill far surpasses Carol’s military boxing style.

Crucially, Diana’s Sword of Athena can bypass high durability; it cuts through Doomsday, meaning it could potentially injure Carol.

2. Supergirl vs. She-Hulk

Whenever Superman’s abilities come up, the discussion usually focuses on his amazing powers. Still, Supergirl has many of those same advantages, yet people sometimes treat her as a supporting character in conversations among DC female superheroes.

Supergirl and She-Hulk are often associated with tremendous physical strength, but reducing either character to that single quality misses what makes them compelling as superheroes.

As other Kryptonians exposed to Earth’s yellow sun, Kara Zor-El developed incredible strength, speed, flight, enhanced senses, and heat vision.

Her powers make her one of the most impressive figures in the DC Universe, although their extent varies by continuity. Her strength lets her shift moons, shatter small celestial bodies, and directly rival her cousin Superman’s physical limits.

Compounding this terrifying brute force is her near-limitless speed; Kara thinks, reacts, and flies at near-light speeds.

In cross-universe terms, while Marvel’s Jennifer Walters can throw a punch with enough force to level a skyscraper, a Kryptonian moves so fast she can process information and strike in nanoseconds, effectively ending a confrontation before an opponent’s nervous system can even register her presence.

But Jennifer’s appeal is not limited to her physical abilities. She remains intelligent, confident, and deeply connected to her career as a lawyer. That distinction makes her a fascinating counterpart to Supergirl.

Kara’s strength is closely tied to her Kryptonian biology and exposure to the yellow sun, while Jennifer’s abilities stem from the gamma-related transformation that made her She-Hulk.

3. Mary Marvel vs. Scarlet Witch

Magic is one of the most unpredictable forces in superhero fiction, and the DC Universe has no shortage of powerful magical characters.

Still, Raven deserves special attention for how she blends stage magic with genuine sorcery. Both can wield extraordinary power, but their stories explore the relationship between ability, responsibility, and personal growth.

Zatanna Raven, a central member of the Teen Titans in many DC stories, is the daughter of the demon Trigon and the human Arella. She carries a dark, multiversal apocalypse inside her own DNA.

Her father, Trigon, is a literal demonic conqueror who destroys entire dimensions for fun. Her abilities often include empathic perception, teleportation, astral projection, healing, and manipulation of mystical energy. Raven’s emotional discipline is central to her character. In many versions, her powers are closely tied to her emotions.

Because of that intense backstory, her power set is incredibly intimate and psychological.

While a character like the Scarlet Witch represents outward, explosive chaos that breaks the physical world, Raven represents inward, absolute control. She must maintain an almost robotic level of emotional discipline every second of her life. If she lets herself feel a sudden burst of pure rage or hatred, her demonic side slips its leash.

This restraint completely defines her unique combat style. When Raven enters a fight, she uses her empathy like a scalpel. She can walk into a room of rampaging villains, tap into their nervous systems, and physically absorb their pain, fear, or anger until they collapse from emotional exhaustion.

Alternatively, she can manifest her Soul-Self, that giant, pitch-black shadow entity, to swallow her enemies whole, plunging them into a void of pure sensory deprivation where physical strength means absolutely nothing.

Wanda is the perfect mirror because she shows what happens when a powerful mystic loses emotional control and lets reality break. Raven is the exact opposite.

4. Black Canary vs. Black Widow

Not every superhero needs to move mountains or manipulate reality. Black Canary and Black Widow show how training, intelligence, discipline, and quick decision-making can make a heroine dangerous even without godlike abilities.

Dinah Lance, the best-known modern incarnation of Black Canary, is one of accomplished DC female superheroes. She has trained extensively in hand-to-hand combat and fought alongside some of the DC Universe’s most capable heroes.

Her fighting style is direct and adaptable, allowing her to face opponents who may be physically stronger than she is. One ability makes her particularly dangerous: the Canary Cry. This sonic attack lets her unleash a powerful scream that can shatter objects and disorient enemies.

The exact origin and scope of the ability vary across versions of her history.

Unlike Black Canary, Natasha does not traditionally rely on a signature superhuman ability. Her greatest advantage is often preparation. She can study a target, spot weaknesses, bait an opponent into a mistake, and use her surroundings to gain the upper hand.

Her experience with the Avengers has also put her alongside superpowered teammates, giving her plenty of opportunities to prove she can contribute even when she isn’t the strongest person on the team. That makes the comparison especially entertaining.

Their approaches to combat contrast interestingly. Black Canary combines elite martial arts with a powerful sonic attack, while Black Widow excels at exploiting weaknesses, gathering intelligence, and controlling the circumstances of an encounter.

5. Hawkgirl vs. Valkyrie

Hawkgirl and Valkyrie bring a distinctly martial quality to their respective universes.

They are warriors whose skills are grounded in combat experience, specialised weapons, and histories tied to larger mythologies.

Hawkgirl has appeared in several incarnations, including notable versions such as Shayera Hol and Kendra Saunders.

Depending on the continuity, her origins may involve Thanagarian heritage, reincarnation, or a combination of science-fiction and mystical elements. She is often depicted as one of the DC female superheroes with wings that let her fly, enhanced physical abilities, and proficiency with weapons like her signature mace.

Her fighting style reflects experience rather than brute force alone. Hawkgirl is often a direct, aggressive combatant who can hold her own against dangerous opponents while remaining a valuable member of superhero teams.

Her complicated history across different versions also gives her character more depth than her visual identity as a winged warrior might initially suggest.

Marvel’s Valkyrie, particularly Brunnhilde, has an equally impressive warrior identity.

Associated with Asgardian mythology and the Valkyrior, she is a powerful fighter with exceptional strength, endurance, and centuries of experience in many versions of her story.

Her traditional role is to guide the souls of fallen warriors, tying her work to questions of honour, death, and sacrifice.

Like Hawkgirl, she brings both physical power and considerable combat experience to a confrontation. The difference is in the flavour of their stories. Hawkgirl often combines science-fiction elements with superhero adventures.

In some versions, the mystery of reincarnation. Valkyrie draws more directly on Asgardian mythology and the responsibilities of a warrior connected to the afterlife.

Marvel vs DC: Do the MCU’s Female Heroes Measure Up?

DC’s female superheroes deserve more than occasional mentions in debates dominated by Superman, Batman, and the publisher’s most famous male characters.

The same goes for Marvel’s heroines, many of whom have spent decades proving they can carry their own stories.

Highlighting the two universes’ heroines adds another worthwhile dimension to those conversations.

The characters’ abilities change across comic-book continuities, and a hypothetical battle’s outcome depends on the circumstances.

Before the next debate about who would win in a fight takes over, there is plenty of room to celebrate the women who have been holding their own all along.
