If you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection.

This book blew me off.

In Unashamed, a young man throws everything about himself up to the world, and I mean everything; the good, the bad, the ugly, and the very ugly. I have heard people say they have come out fully in autobiographies, but this is just extra.

He dug out how low he went- Rehab, how Christ helped him, and how he still struggled with his identity in God when he was a new convert- one thing many people don’t know. You don’t automatically get it right when you start your relationship with Him. There is so much to unlearn and grow, and you need people to mentor you.

Thankfully for Lecrae, although it went all downhill, he got back up with the help of faithful and God-conscious friends. He then went through phases that even mature Christians wouldn’t have dared to go through willingly.

I enjoyed reading this, and I understood the changes in his music and how people were quick to judge him. I also understand how much it took to radically alter his music, especially as he hadn’t come out to explain himself but look at how God has used him to reach nations. Let’s try not to be quick to judge; patience is critical.

Truthfully, I didn’t know Lecrae before Unashamed and now that I do, I have been listening up, and I have been blessed so far. I am also glad that he decided to give himself up for His use, and because of that, God is being honored and made known around the globe.

You can’t read Unashamed and not be moved!

My prayer is that you’ll make music too. Maybe not with your voice, and maybe not on a stage, but hopefully with your life.

Lecrae

Would I recommend it? Yes, please!

Rating: 5 out of 5.
