A Broken People’s Playlist by Chimeka Garricks

Love, cheating, heartbreak, domestic violence, family, police brutality were some of the themes covered in this collection of short stories because this collection is infused with the magic of evocative storytelling you might be drawn to or haunted by a character or two.

“Perhaps you should have lied when your wife asked, “What does she do better than me?” But you told the truth.

️A broken people’s playlist is a collection of twelve short stories about living, loving, hurting, loving again, and finding healing in the most unlikely places.

Chimeka Garricks does an excellent job bringing these stories to life as you might drop a tear or two or, in my case, cry your eyes out at the absolute beauty of these stories.

️The story involves a man who throws a living funeral for his brother, an unrequited love, a girl with daddy issues, an adulterous husband with erectile dysfunction, and many other stories that will break your heart.

️️Love, cheating, heartbreak, domestic violence, family, police brutality were some of the themes covered in this collection of short stories because this collection is infused with the magic of evocative storytelling you might be drawn to or haunted by a character or two.

While I loved this collection, I felt like some of the stories needed to be developed into novels as I really wanted to know more about some of the characters. Well, maybe Chimeka wanted to leave us yearning for more, I guess.

Each story was written under the influence of a song, which makes it even more beautiful. Here is a list of those songs:

  • Lost stars by Adam Levine
  • Music by Erick Sermon& Marvin Gaye
  • Hurt by Johnny Cash
  • Song for Someone by U2
  • In the City by Brymo
  • I put a spell on you by Nina Simeone
  • I’d die without you by P.M. Dawn
  • Beautiful War by Kings of Leon
  • River by Leon Bridges
  • Love’s Divine by Seal
  • Desperado by Eagles
  • You Suppose Know by Best ft Yemi Alade

I think everyone should read this book. It’s a good one
