The Diary of Anne Frank

The effect of war is tragic and heartbreaking. The Diary of a Young Girl is the story of Anne Frank and her family during the Second World War.

The Second World War era was challenging for the Jews, and Anne Frank’s story gave me first-hand knowledge of how dangerous and difficult things were for them during the war. I’m pleased to have discovered this novel as a history student and fan of historical fiction.

I got wrapped up in this book from the first page and found it hard to set it down, quickly discovering what a remarkable piece of literature it was. I felt I was being told the story first-hand by Anne herself. This book made me laugh and smile, and I felt heartbroken at some point too.

Anne’s family had to pack up and leave their comfort zone (house) to go into hiding and live with different people. It was draining for Anne at a young age, but she found solace in her diary by writing about her life in the secret annexe. The secret annexe was a hidden place for Anne’s family, friends, and colleagues. Due to the size, it was not an enjoyable place to live, but they persevered until their secret location was discovered and captured by the Germans.

War is dangerous and sad and has a lasting effect on the affected. I was heartbroken by how much misery the Jews experienced during the time of Adolf Hilter in the late 1930s. It was extreme misery. I’m grateful for books like this because it exposes one to what has happened in the past. Furthermore, this book makes one understand the gravity of war.

The Diary of a Young Girl is my favorite book at the moment and is one I’d gladly read repeatedly. Anne Frank left a lasting legacy in the world.

I greatly recommend this book to everyone.

P.S.: Kindly recommend movies that are based on the Second World War. I’d love to watch them. Also, you can recommend historical fiction books too. Thank you!
