Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson

This well written prose felt like poetry at some point.  This book describes what a passionate relationship feels like without explicit sex scenes.

“It is one thing to be looked at and another to be seen”

Two young people meet at a pub in South East London. Both are Black British, both are artists – he a photographer, she a dancer . They are both trying to be seen in a community that rejects them simply because of their skin colour and hair texture. They both fall in love but are torn apart due to a factor that torments every black person, violence.

This is one book bookstagram made me get that I don’t regret. This book was beautifully written from the mind of the author to capture the minds of its readers with so much emotions. Gosh! This well written prose felt like poetry at some point.  This book describes what a passionate relationship feels like without explicit sex scenes. The author also gives us a very vivid description of it means to be black in a  community and not be seen. Reading this book you’ll experience the emotions of friendships, love, loss, hate and what it means to be tired of something you have no control over.

I definitely give this one ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. I recommend this for anyone looking for a good short read and is ready to wear their emotions on their sleeves as they read this.
